Hidden Valley - Flateyjardalur

We now offer a special autumn tour to Flateyjardalur which has become one of our most beloved destinations through the years.

The valley is sheltered by high mountains on both sides, and even though the valley is rather narrow, there are different trails to follow so we do not ride exactly the same way on our way in & out! 

At this time of the year, autumn colors will be a at prime level and the rich vegetation of the valley will make the valley even more beautiful than it already is during summer time. But there’s also a fair chance the valley already is dressing up in its winter costume and we might be riding through the snow! 

If we are lucky and the Northern lights appear, then there is nowhere better than watching them from this closed valley free of any possibly light disturbance from nearby farms or traffic.

We will spend 2 days riding up and down to the middle of the valley where we will sleep one night in a very basic but cozy mountain hut (sleeping bag accommodation) at a beautiful remote place. In this time of the year, we do not take a herd with us into the valley, as we will be following nice trails along riverbanks & crossing the river which can be icy already in October! 

The other 2 days we will be riding through the beautiful area close to Saltvík farm, possibly with a small herd. We will spend 3 nights at Saltvík farm and will visit Geosea one the evenings.

Note that it depends on the weather what we can do when! In this time of the year it is impossible to say before the tour starts which night we will spend in the valley and when we will be at Saltvík & go to Geosea!
